KEP (Courier, Express, Package)-drivers are the backbone of the last mile:

Today click on „confirm“ and next day your delivery man will ring the doorbell. Last year approximately 2,3 billion packages went on their way to their clients. Until a package can be delivered at the door, it takes a lot of fine-tuned processes in the background. IT is taking an important role in it, but in the last mile it is still the humans who take over the most important tasks. The activity as a delivery agent is often demanding, that is why employers in Courier, Express and Package services watch for personal characteristics during the employment process. Reliable candidates who can work under pressure and have good manners have a better chance to find a job quickly.

Most important tasks and experience:

  • Load safety, loading and unloading vehicles (25.5%)
  • Generla knowledge of roads and places (10.1%)
  • Computer, scanners and mobile devices skills (7.6%)

Most important soft skills of KEP drivers

  • Reliability, accuracy, on schedule (57.9%)
  • Exercise capacity (47.1%)
  • Positive appearance, manners (30.6%)

Annual ESPORG conference (10/30/2017)

The European Secure Parking Organisation ESPORG hosted their annual conference on October 19, 2017 in Brussels. UICR’s president, Robert Kastner attended this conference as secure parking is a very important issue for our drivers.

The participants welcomed the support from the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council for parking operators to create safe and secure parking places for trucks. Bearing in mind that the Member States of the European Union have to establish secure truck parkings every 100 km on Europe’s motorways by 2020.

UICR will continue to support initiatives to reach the goal of 2020. We firmly believe that this will create more attractive working conditions for our drivers.

European Day without a Road Death (8/25/2017)

In 2017, for the second year in a row, project EDWARD – the European Day without a Road Death will take place on 21 September during the European Mobility Week.

The objective of this initiative, launched by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) and supported by the European Commission, is that no one should die on the roads of Europe on 21 September. In the days leading up to EDWARD, we want all road users to think – even for just a few minutes – about the risks they face, the risks they may pose to others and how they can go about reducing those risks. We believe that EDWARD can make a significant contribution towards further reducing road deaths and serious road traffic injuries.

Whether you represent a national government, a private organisation, a public agency, a charity, a school, college or university, or whether you simply care as an individual, please join us and organise Road Safety Days across Europe and register them on roadsafetydays.eu. Furthermore, you can make a commitment by signing a pledge on projectedward.eu, sending a video message and being part of the social media campaign (#ProjectEDWARD).

The first Project EDWARD was a great success! More than 103,000 organisations and individuals signed a road safety pledge on the TISPOL website and more than 80 road safety actions were organised across Europe, including information and awareness-raising activities in schools and companies, workshops, conferences and competitions. In addition, the #ProjectEDWARD and #seatbeltselfie social media campaign reached more than 19 million people. According to TISPOL’s statistics, there were 43 road deaths across 31 countries on 21 September 2016. This compares with 70 fatalities on the same day in 2015. 19 countries recorded zero fatalities. While 7 other countries recorded a reduction in fatalities, compared with the same day in 2015, and 3 countries recorded an increase in fatalities.

We encourage you to join project EDWARD this year on 21 September, and more largely during the European Mobility Week from 16 to 22 September.
