DAF XF / XG / XG + is International Truck of the Year 2022!

The new truck range from DAF Trucks, the XF, the XG and the XG+, is the International Truck of the Year 2022. The prestigious award was presented to Harry Wolters, president of DAF Trucks, at a gala evening at the Solutrans trade fair in Lyon on Wednesday (17th Nov 2021) evening.

The new truck range from DAF Trucks won with an overwhelming number of 150 points, bringing the Dutch long-haul trucks far ahead of the closest rivals Iveco T-Way and the Mercedes-Benz eActros (2nd generation).

The International Truck of the Year Award is presented annually to the truck introduced in the past 12 months that has made the greatest contribution to the efficiency of road transport. This rating is based on several critical criteria, including technological innovation, comfort, safety, driveability, fuel economy, environmental impact, and total cost of ownership (TCO).

DAF Trucks was the first truck manufacturer to take full advantage of the new EU regulations for weights and measures, creating a truck range that greatly improves aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, active and passive safety and driver comfort.

During recent extensive test drives in Spain and Central Europe, the IToY judges appreciated the excellent visibility thanks to the large, curved windscreen, low-lined side windows and curb-view window. These features, together with the digital vision system and the new angle view camera, as well as the traditional side mirrors, provide excellent all-round visibility, better protecting vulnerable road users.

The IToY judges also praised the performance of the new highly efficient powertrains, based on the Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines, coupled with the TraXon automated gearbox, and the advanced functions of the predictive cruise control with extended Eco -roll functionalities.

The chairman of the International Truck of the Year, Gianenrico Griffini, summed up the jury’s vote as follows: “With the introduction of the New Generation, DAF has delivered a high-tech heavy-duty truck range that sets a new standard in the truck industry. In addition, it is future-oriented, as it also provides a complete platform for new generations of alternative powertrains.”

The International Truck of the Year (IToY) award was originally launched in 1977 by British journalist and editor of Truck magazine Pat Kennett. Today, the 24 judges represent leading commercial vehicle magazines across Europe. In addition, the IToY Group has expanded its sphere of influence in recent years by appointing associate members in the growing truck markets of China, India, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Iran and New Zealand. In total, the combined readership of the 24 magazines of the full IToY jury, as well as that of the eight associate members, exceeds one million members. On behalf of the Netherlands, TTM.nl editor-in-chief Arjan Velthoven sits on the jury.

The International Truck of the Year election takes place under the auspices of Dekra in Germany.
